The saying “an oldie but a goodie” suits Infiniti’s QX70, as few SUVs have aged as well from a styling and driving perspective. Its new mesh grille insert helps, as does 2017s new Limited trim that…

2017 Infiniti QX70 Limited Road Test

Have you ever wondered why something can be the best thing since sliced bread one day and all of a sudden yesterday's has-been? The car industry is sometimes hard on modern-day classics, or rather new vehicles that haven't been updated in a while. Infiniti's QX70 falls into this category, but really it deserves much more attention than it gets.

When its predecessor and this second-generation model were created in 2002 and 2009 respectively, Infiniti followed all premium "rules" to a tee and then some, while most competitors took the cheaper, easier route of basing their luxury branded SUVs on mainstream mid-size family sedans. The original QX70 was formed on the back of the Q60 sports coupe's predecessor, which continues to share underpinnings with Nissan's 370Z sports car, and in essence became the industry's first sport utility coupe, much to BMW's disagreement.

On that note I'm a fan of this unusual class of SUV, and still lamenting the loss of Acura's quirky ZDX Read Full Story

Infiniti Q60 sports coupe honoured with prestigious iF Design Award

The prestigious iF Design Award has been given to Infiniti for the second consecutive year, 2016's Q80 Inspiration Concept now joined by the production 2017 Q60 sports coupe.

The annual iF Design Awards program is hosted by one of Germany's oldest and most respected design organizations, iF International Forum Design GmbH in Hanover. Winning is especially rewarding because the jurors aren't solely from the automotive sector, instead representing a cross-industry product design viewpoint; the jury consisting of 58 independent design experts from around the world.

After more than 5,500 entries from 59 countries, 2017 iF Design Awards submissions were judged on "innovation, functionality and ergonomics, aesthetics and the sustainability of its production process and product attributes," stated an Infiniti press release.

The new Q60 received its award within iF Design's "Automobile" category, whereas last year's Q80 Inspiration Concept was recognized within the Read Full Story

2017 Infiniti Q50 2.0t AWD Road Test Review

If it weren't for the tremendous upsurge in sport utility sales, today's premium carmakers would need to be worried. Canadian deliveries of the once impervious BMW 3 and 4 Series have been in free fall, calendar year 2015's collective high somehow tumbling to the lowest point in almost a decade. BMW is still number one in the segment, its 10,504 compact D-segment sales just managing to outpace a slightly sagging Mercedes' C-Class that found just 9,954 customers last year, but an obvious shift in buying patterns is rocking the status quo's boat.

Mercedes' C-Class aside, which has maintained fairly consistent numbers over the years, other brands have experienced similar sales scenarios, Audi's A4 and A5 models undergoing their worst calendar year in some time with just 6,343 sales compared to a peak of 8,307 in 2013; Lexus with just 4,901 IS, ES and RC deliveries compared to a high of 6,749 in 2014; Acura finding just 4,137 buyers for its TLX despite enjoying 5,075 the year prior; Read Full Story

Infiniti offers Formula One dream jobs to aspiring engineers

In Formula One, motorsport's top echelon, the engineers that make the cars fast, fuel-efficient, reliable and safe are at least as important as the drivers that pilot them.

Infiniti has long played an important role in the FIA-sanctioned series, and now that its European partner Renault is back as a fully-fledged manufacturer team instead of just a championship winning engine supplier, Infiniti is more involved than ever before.

Over the past three years the Japanese luxury brand has offered an opportunity for talented young engineers to take part in Renault's F1 efforts, calling it "a money-can't-buy, life changing career opportunity for seven world-class students," in a press release announcing the fourth successive year of the Infiniti Engineering Academy.

On hand for the announcement at the January 16, 2017 Autosport International Show in Birmingham, England were Tommaso Volpe, Director, Infiniti Global Motorsport and Cyril Abiteboul, Managing Director, Read Full Story
What are the chances that Infiniti’s American-born head of design is of Cuban descent, that he had a great uncle who was a famous Cuban architect, and that Cuba would become open to U.S. nationals just…

Infiniti drives first registered US-spec car through Cuban streets in 58 years

You can't make stuff like this up. Alfonso Albaisa, Infiniti's executive design director, is the great-nephew of mid-century modern architect Max Borges-Recio, renowned for designing Havana, Cuba's fabulous and world famous Cabaret Tropicana, as well as Club Náutico. Now that the U.S. has reopened its embassy and is allowing trade and tourism between the two countries, could there be a better opportunity for a family reunion?

For a bit of background, the Tropicana Club, which came to life in 1939 at Villa Mina, a large suburban estate in Havana's Marianao neighborhood, helped spread Cuba's rich, vibrant culture internationally, and of course was the inspiration for the fictional Manhattan nightclub of the same name in "I Love Lucy", where Lucy's (Lucille Ball) husband Ricky Ricardo (played by Cuban-born Desi Arnaz) was a singer and bandleader. The TV venue has since been recreated in real-life, not to mention the Tropicana name has also been used for hotel casinos in Atlantic Read Full Story
