Buying a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander, and saving $2000 off of MSRP.
I recommend the salesman but not the dealer. We first hesitated between a Subaru forrester and a Mitsubishi Outlander. A few visits to both dealerships made us choose the latter as knowing that their models were a topsell and facing the limited stock caused by the tsunami in Japan, Subaru dealers just did not take the time to really inform us but just gave us pressure by advising us to rush to buy the car if we wanted one delivered by late June-early July! (20 to 45 days wait !!!) Consequently, this gave us no room to negotiate anything, worse, some Subaru dealers even added 500 to 1300$ to their MRSP as a transport/delivery extra fee, claiming that they had to go out of province to get the car... ANYWAY, here is my story with the Mitsubishi Outlander buying experience: I visited the three dealers in the Quebec-city area, establihed contact with one salesman in each location and once I found a buyer for my old car, He and I then went to the one the nearest to my residence. I actually sold my old vehicle through the dealership as it saves you a lot of taxes on the new one. I said to the salesman I was decided to buy the car at the best price, I also said that I had the Car Cost and that If I couldn't get the price I wanted from them I would go to the dealer in Levis where I already had a negotiated price. I was able to get a price $400 lower than the dealer in Levis and $1800 lower than MRSP+transport-preparation and air tax. I in fact was able to save the equivalent amount charged for Transport, prep and air tax. Dealing with the salesman was straightforward, he just made one trip to his Sales Director, made me wait 10 minutes (dont know what they can talk about during 10 minutes...) and then came back with him. The hardest and worst part is dealing with the Sales Director because the ''battle is not fair'' its 2 against 1 and the intimidating game can really make you give in and allow them to take their counter offer. I did not give in and kept telling them I was ready to leave to see the other dealers as I wanted to buy a car quickly and that I had a buyer for my trade-in vehicle waiting for me outside. They finally accepted my offer. Just one last thing, watch the figures twice or 10 times once you meet the business and finance Manager as they are trying to mix you up with unclear contract paperwork and hard to understand finance formula and so on. GOOD LUCK
