2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT Road Test Review

Want a mid-size performance SUV that can run the wheels off of many of today's so-called sports cars? Step up to the premium brands and there's a wealth of pricy top-line offerings, from Land Rover's new $91,490 Range Rover Sport Supercharged to Mercedes' $104,400 ML 63 AMG, and of course Porsche's impressive $128,200 Cayenne Turbo. A brand that might not immediately come to mind, however, is made by the American brand that invented the sport utility class, Jeep and its shockingly capable yet comparably very affordable $64,895 Grand Cherokee SRT.

There's nothing that even comes close to the Grand Cherokee SRT's performance below its price point or for that matter between its mid-$60s MSRP and the Range Rover Sport Supercharged's stratospheric $90-plus range. So can the homegrown GC SRT actually run with these six-figure Europeans? Despite being the only one of these four under the 500-horsepower threshold, the 470-horse SRT will scoot to 100 km/h in a scant 4.9 seconds, which Read Full Story

2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee Summit EcoDiesel Road Test Review

When Jeep updated the its fourth-generation Grand Cherokee for the 2014 model year, it made many of the little tweaks and changes we've come to expect from a mid-cycle refresh. There's a new front fascia with a body-coloured grille surround, smaller headlights, and reshaped fog lights. At the back, the taillights have been redesigned and the chrome strip between them has been removed, while at the corners there are new wheel designs. With its metallic red paint, polished chrome wheels and bold grille my Summit trimmed test truck certainly turned heads.

More significantly, Jeep also made a couple of notable mechanical updates for 2014, with a new eight-speed automatic transmission and a newly available 3.0-litre direct-injected turbodiesel engine. This isn't the first time the Grand Cherokee has been offered with a diesel in North America - the third-generation version got an available Mercedes-Benz-sourced diesel from 2007 until that model was replaced in 2010. It's also not Read Full Story

2015 Jeep Renegade is a real 4×4 in the subcompact class

Among all the reveals at the recent New York auto show, the smallest vehicle that made the biggest splash was the 2015 Jeep Renegade. The Renegade is Jeep's new subcompact off-roader, a vehicle based on the Fiat 500X platform and aimed at the fast-growing small SUV segment where it will compete with the likes of the Buick Encore, Chevrolet Trax, Mini Countryman, Nissan Juke and even the larger Subaru XV Crosstrek. Reflecting its European roots, the Renegade was first shown to the public at the Geneva auto show in March, with New York marking its North American debut.

The Renegade marks Jeep's first foray into subcompact territory, and while its city-sized proportions make it perfect for zipping around town, it also boasts genuinely capable off-road ability for when adventure beckons: The Renegade will be available with either front-wheel drive or a choice of two intelligent four-wheel drive systems developed using technology borrowed from the new Jeep Cherokee. 2014 Jeep Compass Limited 4×4 Road Test Review

I have to be honest with you. I wasn't expecting the Compass to impress me. First off, it's styling is miles better than its first generation, secondly it has one of the nicest interiors in its class, plus its totally accommodating inside, and is sportier feeling on the road than I remember the previous model being.

Jeep updated the Compass for the 2011 model year, giving it some of the Grand Cherokee's good looks while also revising the suspension for better handling, reworking the interior with more soft-touch materials and better electronics, while giving the little ute the option of real off-road capability. Now, three model years later, the Compass looks much the same as that redo while features have become more plentiful; especially in my top-line Limited model.

Jeep offers the Compass Limited with three transmissions, a standard five-speed manual, a $1,495 six-speed automatic and a $2,500 continuously variable (CVT) that's actually the one you'd want if you plan Read Full Story

Diesel powered Jeep Cherokee to debut at Geneva motor show

Diesels are becoming increasingly popular in Canada, and while European brands have led the way, the domestic marques are starting to catch up. Chrysler, now known as Fiat Chrysler Automobiles, has already launched diesel versions of its Ram 1500 pickup and Jeep Grand Cherokee, and now a new diesel-powered Jeep will be joining the lineup, sort of.

Unfortunately for Canadian diesel fans the 2014 Cherokee Diesel won't be debuting at the Chicago Auto Show for sale in North America, but will instead be debuting at Geneva Auto Show in March for sale - initially at least - only in Europe. It does, however, raise the possibility that a North American Cherokee Diesel might eventually be offered here to replace the old Liberty Diesel.

With the exception of a few minor tweaks to satisfy European regulatory requirements, the Cherokee offered across the Atlantic will be essentially identical to the version offered here.

Under the hood, however, overseas buyers will get Read Full Story
