Subaru’s 2018 WRX gets a mid-cycle update that’s really worth investigating, as it enhances styling with plenty of new blackened details such as a new grille and front fascia plus new sets of 17-…

2018 Subaru WRX Sport-tech RS Road Test

With an entirely new fifth-generation Impreza introduced just last year, Subaru couldn't exactly let its rally-inspired WRX flagship venture into the 2018 model year without any attention at all. Fortunately they've gone all out and given this four-door sports car a thorough mid-cycle update that renews styling, improves interior refinement, adds features, and ups performance.

I think WRX fans will like what they see. While the basic shape of the fourth-generation VA design is the same, improvements include a completely reworked grille with new blackened borders and a black mesh insert, a race-spec style multi-part lower front fascia with a matte black centre vent, and bigger reshaped matte black fog lamp bezels, all supported by a variety of new black alloy wheels depending on trim. The gaping hood scoop, swollen fenders with reverse engine vents and chromed "WRX" appliques, rear deck lid spoiler, and racy matte black rear diffuser with quad chromed tailpipes remain, the combination Read Full Story

2017 Subaru WRX Sport-tech Road Test

WRX? EVO? WRX? EVO? WRX? Hold on… we no longer get to make this argument. Sadly, in a dedicated, systematic effort to transform itself into the most yawn-inducing automaker the world has seen since Daewoo disappeared under the umbrella of General Motors, Mitsubishi has forsaken its countless performance fans along with decades of world rally heritage by giving up on the legendary Lancer Evolution series of compact sport sedans, so now the only Evo that might have a chance of unseating a new WRX will need to come from the pre-owned side of Mitsubishi's dealer lots (or the used lots of Subaru retailers exchanging Evo trade-ins for new WRX STIs). The WRX, on the other hand, is very much alive and better than ever, while its Subaru parent, despite no longer taking part in the World Rally Championship directly, still benefits from its decades of motorsport investment. In fact, Subaru's Canadian division has been growing stronger every year, from just 16,190 sales a decade Read Full Story

2017 Subaru Impreza Sport-tech 5-Door Road Test

It's been an especially good 12-plus months for Subaru. Not only did calendar year 2016 result in the Japanese brand's best-ever sales, but since then it took home trophies for Canadian Black Book's 2017 Best Retained Value for Overall Brand in the Car Category, as well as top overall brand honours in ALG's 9th Annual Canadian Residual Value Awards.

The Impreza achieved third place in the CBB award's compact category, first place won by Subaru's Crosstrek that's based on the Impreza 5-Door model reviewed here, while the Impreza also won the ALG award's "Compact Car" category outright. Topping it all off, Impreza had its best-ever sales in calendar year 2016 too, one of few compact models that actually grew its numbers from 2015 through 2016.

Helping boost that total is an entirely new 2017 Impreza that arrived last fall, and believe me it's a game changer. For starters it's arguably the most attractive Impreza ever, this aided by a longer, wider and lower stance. Second, Read Full Story

Subaru wins best Mainstream Brand in ALG Residual Value Awards

Earlier this month we reported on Subaru winning Canadian Black Book's Best Retained Value for Overall Brand in the Car Category, as part of a larger CBB story covering all brands. The Japanese brand received its award at the Canadian International Auto Show in Toronto last week, while also taking kudos for winning this year's top Mainstream Brand in ALG's 9th Annual 2017 Canadian Residual Value Awards (RVA).

The RVA forecasts which brand is more likely to retain the highest average Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price (MSRP) percentage of after four years.

"Residual values are a key indicator of the overall market success and health of a vehicle and brand," said Jim Nguyen, president of ALG. "And with vehicle leasing on the rise, resale values have never been more important to both consumers and automakers."

This is the second consecutive year Subaru has achieved the top Mainstream brand award, earning a total of four segment awards.

Subaru Canada achieves best sales ever

Beating sales records is nothing new at Subaru Canada, the calendar year 2016 resulting in its fifth consecutive best-ever deliveries with 50,190 units down the road. A best ever December, up 9.8 percent from 12 months prior, helped push Subaru over the top, the final tally representing a 7.7-percent gain over last year's total of 46,609 units.

"Once again Subaru Canada has exceeded expectations to set a fifth consecutive annual sales record," said Shiro Ohta, Chairman, President and CEO of Subaru Canada, Inc. "These sales records are a direct result of the quality vehicles, parts and accessories as well as the excellent service we continue to provide our customers. We look forward to setting new benchmarks for 2017."

The Forester compact SUV, this year's winner of the Automobile Journalist Association of Canada's (AJAC) "Best New Small Utility Vehicle" led the way with 1,202 sales in December, which showed growth of 12.7 percent over December of 2015, and 13,798 Read Full Story
