Some premium buyers are brand motivated while others want all the performance and luxury at a more modest price, this latter group well provided for by Acura’s TLX. The D-segment compact goes up against…

2017 Acura TLX SH-AWD Tech A-Spec Road Test Review

Let's begin by agreeing that it's highly unlikely a competitor to Germany's big three sport sedans, which include BMW's 3 Series, Mercedes-Benz' C-Class and Audi's A4, will outpace any on Canada's sales charts for a very long time. The best and brightest from Lexus, Infiniti, Acura, Cadillac, Volvo, and Jaguar have tried over and over, and while each has made headway none has unseated even one of these popular performers so far. BMW, Mercedes and Audi own this market, just like they did when rival Saab was a serious player and will continue to once Alfa Romeo fully reenters our market. Therefore we really should award prizes for the best of the rest.

In this respect, Acura has long held position at the top of the "others" category, first with its TL and then by adding the smaller TSX, plus more recently with their single TLX offering. Comparing D-segment sport sedan sales alone (which is difficult to do as BMW includes its Gran Turismo hatchback and Touring wagon models in the Read Full Story
After a makeover last year the RDX continues into 2017 mostly unchanged, but that doesn’t make it any less desirable. Actually, it’s one of the bestselling compact luxury SUVs thanks to a $42+k base…

2017 Acura RDX Elite Road Test Review

Name me a German compact SUV that comes standard with full LED headlamps? I'll save you the time of looking, as there isn't one. This advanced safety and styling feature is only optional with the Teutonic brands, each of which costs more than Acura's RDX even when compared in base trim.

From the Japanese premium brand's entry-level ILX sedan to its mid-size seven-occupant MDX utility, good value has long been an Acura trait. You can buy a 2017 RDX for as little as $42,190, which while a thousand more than last year's base price is still a great deal for what you're getting.

First off the RDX comes standard with a smooth and energetic 3.5-litre V6 that's good for 279 horsepower and 252 lb-ft of torque, plus standard AWD. Additional standard kit includes 18-inch alloys, amplitude reactive dampers, a host of AcuraWatch features such as forward collision warning, collision mitigation braking, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, tire pressure monitoring, and adaptive Read Full Story
Acura sells a lot of ILX sedans, and a key reason is value. For a sub-$30k price it gets a standard 201-hp 4-cylinder, an 8-speed dual-clutch auto with paddles, full LED headlamps, adaptive cruise control,…

2017 Acura ILX Premium Road Test Review

Ironically, Acura's compact ILX sedan's biggest competitor might just be the all-new Honda Civic that debuted last year. Certainly the premium-branded model offers more upscale styling, some nicer finishing inside and the performance benefits of a real eight-speed automatic transmission, but the new Civic delivers arguably more advanced styling that also includes full LED headlights in top-line Touring trim, pretty impressive interior detailing, more advanced electronic interfaces, and a more modern ambiance overall. Still, I'd opt for the Acura.

Before justifying my personal bias, the ILX' true compact luxury competitors include Audi's A3 sedan, Buick's Verano, and Mercedes' CLA sedan, the latter of which is more of a four-door coupe albeit still reasonably accommodating in back. Of course, there are others vying for your entry-level premium dollar, including Mercedes' B-Class and Lexus' CT five-doors, plus BMW's two-door 2 Series, although this coupe and convertible duo doesn't Read Full Story

Acura Canada sells 500,000th vehicle

Amidst preparations for its upcoming birthday party in March of next year, Acura's Canadian division has something else to celebrate. Yesterday on September 27th, its 500,000th vehicle was sold in Canada.

Fittingly this milestone Acura was its bestselling 2017 RDX, delivered to Baharak Ayenesima in Toronto, who also received a commemorative gift.

"We're extremely proud of what we've accomplished since our early days and selling half-a-million Acuras to Canadians is testament to our luxury products and continued growth," said Gary Gill, Senior Manager of Acura Sales and Marketing. "As we close-in on 30 years in Canada, we have 51 dealers across the country and an unparalleled line-up including the new NSX super car, the restyled MDX, the first in Acura's lineup to sport the new Precision Concept design direction and the award-winning RDX luxury SUV."

Acura, a division of Honda, became the first Japanese luxury automotive brand in 1986 when it entered the U.S. Read Full Story
The popular MDX gets new front styling for 2017, with an angular grille that will likely divide opinions. Other than that not much changes from last year, with standard features including a 290-hp V6,…

2017 Acura MDX SH-AWD Navi Road Test Review

Look down at your wrist. Chances are, if you're considering purchasing an Acura MDX you're wearing something along the lines of a Bulova Precisionist Wilton Chronograph or one of Citizen's many Eco-Drive watches. If you're really into horology that Citizen might be a higher end Signature Grand Touring Sport, Signature Grand Classic 9184, or even better, a Campanola. Then again if you're not part of the more egocentric sex you probably don't care as much about watches because you've got so much other great jewelry to enjoy, but let's say you're donning something from Michael Kors, D&G, Fitbit, or possibly the latest Apple Watch 2, but not by Hermes as that's just frivolous.

Don't get me wrong. I'm sure you could afford a $3,000 timepiece if you wanted to, and I'm certainly not criticizing the choice of an Apple Watch or anything from Citizen. I consider these intelligent choices. I own an Eco-Drive myself and it's a superb tool watch. In fact, it keeps the most accurate time Read Full Story
