New is a deep, wide grille that's much more masculine than the current car's, while it's nose is taller, more upright and less homely, with a bolder more assertive appearance that is bound to attract those who want an SUV for the rugged go-anywhere appearance but would rather live with the user friendliness and lower ride height of a car.

The cabin looks much the same as the outgoing model, stating that this is more of a mid-cycle upgrade than a wholesale model revision, although the current R's interior is superb so no prospective buyers should be put off.
Likely the new R-Class will come in R350 BlueTEC diesel and R350 4Matic gasoline versions in North America, and different variations in other world markets. A return to the R63 AMG is also possible now that the crossover looks more aggressive right out of the box.
