Jacqueline from Gatineau, QC reported on Tuesday, April 14, 2009, buying a 2009 Toyota Corolla, and saving $2,000 off of MSRP.
We chose this dealer because the service is known to be great and they welcomed us, [especially] compared to another one in Gatineau. After discussing with the sales rep, who was new on staff, the sales Manager overheard me talking about this CarCost report. He took me over, brought me in his office and I simply turned over my report. He laughed and turned his computer screen on and said: "Look, it's all the same numbers". So I offered a minimum 3% profit and the deal was made. We negotiated a car remote starter on top of it.

Sylvain from Gatineau, QC reported on Monday, July 11, 2011, buying a 2011 Toyota RAV4, and saving $3,000 off of MSRP.
The sale/negotiation happened just at the beginning of a promotion now currently available at Toyota; we provided the amount of wholesale from CarCost and right there the painful bargaining process just stopped; the salesman just told us that they would agree to the price (wholesale) + a $900.00 profit margin which is the 3% range suggested.

Use the dealer invoice information to start the negotiations. Do not let the dealer sell you other non-essential gadgets or services. Beware of some dealers' "admin fee" of 600 to 800, in the Ottawa area.

Norman from Montreal, QC reported on Tuesday, October 02, 2007, buying a 2008 Toyota RAV4, and saving $2,000 off of MSRP.
Choice of RAV4 vs.ther small SUVs: recommendation from APA (Association de la protection des automobilistes); durability, comfort, quality construction, style, ... Dealer choice: found by Bob Preste of Dealfinder which was referred by CarCost. Excellent and quick service from Bob. I was surprised that Martin Paquette of Villa Toyaota was so cooperative as he had been obliged to accept a very low qoute. I suspected that his service would be minimal but it was not the case. Prior to taking delivery and throughout the whole process he and his colleagues were very service-minded.

Helped to visit more than one dealership in the area. During negotiations, it was extremely useful to have the wholesale price, both for the car itself and for different options. I indicated during negotiations that I knew the wholesale price and that I knew what the average mark-up was, so that I knew approximately where the negotiating room was.
