Buying a 2012 Ford Escape, and saving $4000 off of MSRP.
I contacted several dealers. I knew exactly what I wanted, and I let them know I knew the wholesale price then asked for their best price, without offering my own. Most of them gave me a price, one of them at an extreme discount. Then the dealer I eventually went with, who had already made me an offer, beat the best offer by $500. Most of the dealers who later asked what I finally paid said they didn't make a profit. Knowing the wholesale, I don't think they did either. It just became one-up game with them, and I won.
