Buying a 2011 Mitsubishi Outlander, and saving $5000 off of MSRP.
We have two Mitsu dealerships in the area. I started off at KW-Mitsu and when I walked on the lot I was treated with disdain. More like I wasn't a valued potential customer. Turns out through my research I knew more about the different models I was interested in than the salesman. When I had finally narrowed down what I was looking for, and started to preliminary talk prices, they didn't want to budge much and were giving me a hard time. So I walked out in the middle of the deal and went down to Cambridge Mitsu. I told the sales rep what I was interested in now that I had it narrowed down. I also told them what price I was willing to pay, with included options. (2% above asking, 1/2 price trailer hitch, cost on NAV system upgrade). So they made a little on the trailer hitch (upgrades and installation is where they get their money). Now they do try to finagle you into a bunch of service plans and the whatnot. I fell for the window etching upgrade because I wasn't paying attention to stuff enough, when I got a cheap tires warranty (have had lots of tire issues in the past). Turns out it was bundles with the etching, for a substantial increase in cost. All told when the deal is done, they were very amicable and didn't try to rush me out the door as soon as they had their certified check. I took the car back with some complaints on some of the finish that came from the factory or from sitting on the lot, and an hour later I had a shiny new looking car again. Over all I had to not budge on the any pricing issues, and negotiate hard. I understand that they are doing their job to make the dealership money... just seems to take a loooooooong time. In the end I got the car I wanted at around the price I wanted to pay. I dealt with Amrit (Sales Rep) and Victoria (sales manager) If you do go on, tell them Pete Baginski sent you. I bet they will roll their eyes.
