Buying a 2012 Ford Explorer, and saving $5000 off of MSRP.
Having the Wholesale Price from CarCostCanada provided a definite advantage in negotiations because you feel more confident about what type of savings you are striving for. Essentially it puts you in control in terms of what you are willing to accept from a particular dealer. This is my second time around using CareCostCanada so I felt more comfortable in my negotiating position.
The negotiation in my case did not go quite as I expected, primarily because I was also negotiating the value of my trade-in. I settled for a little less of a discount on the new vehicle because I was offered a relatively reasonable trade-in value for my old vehicle.
My advice to others is to go in prepared with an aggressive number in your mind, which you would be prepared to accept without further negotiation and without consulting other dealers. Then to move off your position only very little by little regardless of what they initially come back to you with--depending on how much you like your sales rep.
