The dealership is very low-key and friendly. I had a great experience.

The sales rep politely suggested that CCC and the dealer's idea of a fair mark-up is not always the same. I countered by saying that I understand that the dealer has to make money too and that is why I went with the high-end of CCC recommendation (i.e. 6%) They initially offered an 8% mark-up (suggesting that they split the difference (10 vs 6). I said I would think about it and told them that I thought I was being fair at 6% and that was what my budget was for and am willing to sign the paperwork today if they were willing to close the gap a little more. We agreed at 7%, which saved us $1,200 from the MSRP.

I had the Car Cost print outs for the Corolla, Civic, and Impreza in hand when walking into the Toyota dealer. The sales rep noticed them, and the quoted cost from him was immediately a shade below what Car Cost intimated would be reasonable. Having the print outs in full view was a definate plus as it took negotiating out of the equation.
